Marco Vivarelli graduated from Bocconi University-Milano in 1987 and earned a Ph.D. in Science and Technology Policy from SPRU-Sussex University and one in Economics from Pavia University. He has taught in various Italian universities and he is currently Full Professor of Economic Policy at the Catholic University of Milano.
He is Senior Scientist (visiting) at the European Commission-Joint Research Centre-Institute for Prospective Technological Studies (JRC-IPTS, Seville).
He is Research Fellow at IZA-Bonn; Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute of Economics - Jena; External Associate at the CSGR- University of Warwick. Since June 2002 to May 2005 he has served as Senior Research Economist at the International Labour Office - Geneva. He is Associate Editor of Small Business Economics and he serves as referee of many international journals.
He is author and editor of various books and his papers have been published in refereed international journals such as the Oxford Bulletin of Economics and Statistics, the International Journal of Industrial Organization, Research Policy, Economics Letters, the Cambridge Journal of Economics, the Southern Economic Journal, Applied Economics, the Journal of Evolutionary Economics, Industrial and Corporate Change, the Journal of Economics.
His current research interests include the determinants and consequences of R&D and innovation activities; the labour market and income distribution impacts of globalization in developing countries; the entry and post-entry performance of newborn firms.
